The Worst Tasting Thing I Have Ever Consumed

Overall:

I wanna start off by saying I'm a huge fan of the Vanilla Whey Protein Isolate from MyProtein. In terms of flavor, mixability, value, and effectiveness (I can only assume) it's all 5 stars. However, I went vegan about 10 months ago and turned to MyProtein again, expecting to get a great product from them. I went with the Pea Protein Isolate due to it being extremely cheap on a sale, but I disregarded the large (relative to Soy Protein Isolate) proportion of bad reviews talking about the bad taste or chalkiness of this powder. I should not have doubted these people. I did not think the powder smelled good so I initially tried mixing it into a large smoothie of banana, kale, avocado, blueberries, and oat milk (a smoothie I make a lot and enjoy greatly.) I nearly threw up on the first sip. I had the bags of powder sitting in my apartment for a few months before thinking that I really needed to get my money's worth and that I should try and power through this protein powder. I made the mistake of mixing it with water, thinking that I didn't want to waste my non-dairy milk or other food trying to hide the awful flavor of this powder. Not only does this protein powder not blend completely when in a 10-speed blender, but it also does not dissolve well in a shaker cup or when stirred into water. On all three occasions, I encountered large, chalky clumps that stuck to the insides of my mouth and the top of my throat, damning me to extra exposure to concentrated disgustingness. With all three attempts to consume this protein powder, I had the same result. I am by no means a picky eater and I can power through most things even if I don't enjoy the taste, but this powder is the only thing to get me close to throwing up since I drank spoiled milk. If I ever swallowed poison, I could simply mix this protein powder with water and drink that, and anything I'd ingested in the last 9 years would probably come up. I've lowkey been traumatized and I'm scared to try other vegan protein powders, pea protein or otherwise.

Enjoyable in my smoothies!

I really like this in my morning smoothies, I am PLEASED so far (have tried about 1.5lbs of it so far). This does the trick and is a good price. Probably one of the better protein powder options at MP. Comparing MP Pea powder + Cocoa Powder + Stevia + Water to another brand's Cocoa + Pea powder + Water, this product seems less smooth and not as easily mixable, few stars knocked for consistency / ease of use.

If you had to buy in a pinch it will do fine

Originally I bought the unflavored version, horrible idea. Then I switched to the brown rice powder (chocolate stevia) as this pea protein contains soy. In a MyProtein blog about pea protein, it promotes pea protein as an alternative for those who want to avoid soy. With that said, MyProtein's pea protein contains soy. While most criticized the brown rice powder for its graininess, I enjoyed it. It reminds me of a chocolate fudge popsicle. Fast forward to this review and I bought pea protein by mistake. Fourtnately I got the chocolate stevia version. While it's much smoother than the brown rice powder, it's much thicker. When adding more water, it loses its flavour. I will have to play around with the ratios (my baseline is 300mL for 1 full scoop). As for mixability, I use a fork so it's no a problem. From more recent reviews, the brown rice formula has changed. I'd still go for brown rice if avoided soy and dairy is the goal. It's a true shame the pea protein contains soy as it has potential.

Texture is good and mixes well into oats, but the soy protein tastes slightly better.

I’ve tried lots of other vegan protein powders, and this is the only one that does not hurt my stomach. Tastes great. Mixes well into smoothies, yogurt, oatmeal. 10/10 recommend trying!

Good/cheap protein

I chose it simply due to its insanely cheap price. Wasn’t expecting much and was considerably happy with how many pounds I received for such a great deal. Taste is bland, mixes okay but is a little grainy which sucks. But I can’t complain too much, it does it’s job.

Solid Plant Based Protein

Bought this to add a different protein to my routine, and it's not bad. I got unflavored to try it in a variety of applications, and it does have a little bit of a taste if you use it alone. I regularly mix it with a 50/50 skim milk & water base, and add in some Flavor Drops to give it a bit of a taste, and it does pretty well. You have to mix it really well or you can get clumps, and if you use anything thicker than water or skim milk it takes a good amount of effort to get clumps out. I've added it to smoothies and it's much better when it has lots of flavor to balance it out, and you mix it in a blender of some sort. Overall I feel like it's a great way to get some additional protein from a plant source vs. whey. I'm planning to try adding it to some recipes, but I'll need to work on the balance of liquids so this doesn't dry out whatever I make.
