What to Serve With Tiramisu Mug Cake

Tiramisu mug cake is an airy, light dessert that pairs well with various sides.

For a refreshing contrast, serve it alongside a vibrant fruit salad including berries, sliced bananas, or citrus segments, which will balance the rich coffee and chocolate notes of the mug cake.

Additionally, some Greek yogurt drizzled with honey and sprinkled with granola can add a creamy, crunchy element to your cake.

Alternatively, if you want a side that'll warm you up in the cool season, some warm, spiced apples cooked with a touch of cinnamon and a splash of vanilla create the ultimate comfort dessert.

For drinks, an almond milk latte or a lightly sweetened chai tea perfectly complements the flavours of the tiramisu mug cake, making for an indulgent yet balanced treat.

Extra Toppings

  • Shaved dark chocolate
  • Crushed biscotti or graham crackers
  • Chopped nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, pecans)
  • Fresh berries (raspberries, strawberries, blueberries)
  • Coconut flakes
  • Drizzle of caramel or chocolate syrup
  • Espresso-soaked ladyfinger crumbles
  • Whipped cream or dairy-free alternative
  • Dusting of cocoa powder, cinnamon, or nutmeg
  • Mini chocolate chips

Equipment Needed

  • Blender or food processor
  • Ramekin or microwave-safe mug
  • Fine mesh sieve (for sifting cocoa powder)

Tips for Making Tiramisu Mug Cake

  • Blend thoroughly to ensure the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
  • Grease the ramekin or mug lightly with cooking spray to make flipping easier.
  • Adjust microwave time based on wattage; check the cake's doneness by pressing lightly—it should feel firm but not dry.
  • Use high-quality cocoa powder and coffee for the best tiramisu-inspired flavours.
  • Let the cake cool slightly before flipping to avoid breaking it apart.
  • Don’t overfill the mug or ramekin to prevent overflow while microwaving.
  • Try layering flavours by adding a middle layer of yogurt or nut butter before cooking.

Batch Cook and Store Safely

To batch cook the tiramisu mug cake, you'll need to prepare the batter in larger quantities but cook each mug cake individually to ensure even cooking.

Once the cakes are cooked and cooled, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. When ready to enjoy, reheat them in the microwave for 10–20 seconds to warm them slightly, or eat them cold for a firmer texture.

For freshness, add toppings like yogurt, cocoa powder, or berries just before serving. If you'd like to store them longer, you can freeze the cooked mug cakes for up to a month by wrapping them tightly in plastic wrap and placing them in a freezer-safe bag.

When frozen, thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating for a quick and satisfying treat.

Make it Vegan

To make your mug cake vegan, you can easily substitute the non-vegan ingredients with plant-based alternatives. Firstly, replace the egg or egg whites with a flax or chia egg by mixing one tablespoon of ground flaxseed or chia seeds with three tablespoons of water and letting it sit for 5–10 minutes until it thickens.

Next, swap the cottage cheese with a vegan yogurt, such as almond, soy, or coconut-based yogurt, to maintain the creamy texture.

Then, ensure you're using a vegan protein powder, like our soy or pea protein isolate, as suggested in the recipe.

Finally, most flavours of Myprotein FlavDrops are already vegan-friendly (except Strawberry and Raspberry). If you want to replace the FlavDrops with an alternative sweetener/flavour, you can use a splash of vanilla extract for added flavour.
