Tastes like Budweiser

I got the chocolate smooth flavor and it tastes like Keystone light beer. It's good in every other aspect. I guess after 11 lbs of this, I'll be accustomed to the taste of keystone and won't mind buying it (and will save money), so that's a plus.

Great protein content, flavor/texture not that great.

After having lost nearly 200lbs I have really started focusing on building muscle, which obviously involves taking in a ton of protein. After doing some research, and trying other brands, I decided to give myprotein a try. I ordered a 1kg package of White Chocolate and have used roughly 3/4 of it over the last month. The taste is, well, not the best. Virtually no White Chocolate flavor and VERY little sweetness. When I make a shake I usually add splenda or stevia to it to bring to a decent sweetness level. However, I am aware that European tastes regarding sweetness are different than the US, so I generally overlook this fact. Next time I order I might just go with something a bit more plain like Chocolate or Vanilla, as maybe it is just this flavor is bland for me. The texture of the prepared mixture is ... watery. It's not a bad texture, but I know some protein companies add guar gum or xanthan gum to thicken the resulting shake. Maybe I am just used to that, or maybe the texture gets me because I don't add tons of frozen fruit, frozen bananas, peanut butter, etc. to my shakes. I do occasionally add fat free cottage cheese to the shakes, but it is still pretty thin when blended. I've also tried adding Fat Free/Sugar Free instant pudding mix to the shakes as well, which does improve the texture some, just let it sit for 2-3 minutes after mixing and MUST use milk to make the shake. (the milk activates the coagulants in the pudding) As a side note, if you mix this into oatmeal, you MUST wait until the oatmeal cools some. Otherwise, the powder clumps into a curd like texture with the taste of curdled milk or eggs. Kind of like when a custard "breaks" when overcooked. The flavor isn't entirely off-putting, but the texture of chewy cheese curd-like clumps is kind of gross. As I have said, Ive lost 200 lbs and looking to add mass, so I am always in search of the purest forms of protein at the cheapest prices I can find. So far, myprotein has every other protein company I have tried beat, including Isopure, when it comes to purity and macros. However, the texture of a plain shake, regardless if it is mixed with water or milk, is pretty low in my book. I have resulted in mixing one scoop of myprotein with one scoop of another brand that I like the flavor of better. At the end of the day, it's a single shake out of my day, the macros are spot on to keep me in my normal range, and it packs a hefty dose of protein. I'll try a few more flavors over the coming months and reassess my opinions on the matter, then decide whether I stay with myprotein or go with another brand for my protein needs.

Good Product, Weird Taste, and Velcro?

This is a review of the Unflavored Whey Isolate. As most of these reviews indicate, you get a quality product for an excellent price that is further discounted by frequent sales. I plan to be a long-time customer of MP. Two things, however. The Unflavored is not flavorless. Mixed with 8oz of water, it tastes like very, very diluted milk. It's not overwhelming at all, but you know there's something in your water. It's not the most pleasant taste so you should definitely mix it like others have suggested with something like soy, almond milk, or anything else to mask that taste. Fortunately, it mixes incredibly well, does not leave a gritty feeling nor does it thicken the water like some other whey products do. The other thing is the seal on the bag. Velcro? I ordered two other bags of whey isolate and both come with standard ziplock type seals. But the Unflavored came with a velcro seal...it close and opens just fine but it definitely not airtight. Is this right? Should I be concerned?
Goes Well With:
Mixes very well with water; but tastes like very diluted milk. Probably better with soy, almond milk, chocolate almond milk...anything other than water. Adding milk defeats the purpose of paying more for a whey isolate.

Horrible Aftertaste

Title says it all. I got this product because it was a bit cheaper than the Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Rocky Road protein, but honestly you're better off just spending a bit of extra money. The aftertaste on this protein is something like a buttered popcorn Jelly Belly, which if you've ever had, you'd know is one of the most disgusting things ever. Now I get to use this for the next year because my dumbass bought 11 pounds of this stuff.

Great tasting

Overall:

By far one of the smoothest, non-gross tasting protein shakes out there, and I've tasted quite a few! So far I've tried Strawberry Cream and Chocolate Banana and like them both. Will try more flavors.
Goes Well With:
Water, Almond milk, psyllium husks, BCAAs, creatine

Awesome Packaging!

The actual product is as great as always, but this review is mainly about the packaging. Some of the most recent bags of protein I received have a resealable package that feature plastic, velcro type hooks instead of the zipper type. I LOVE this. I know it may seem like a small thing, but when you are opening and closing the same bag 2,3,4 times a day, it makes a difference. It is SO much easier to reseal than the regular zipper type bags. Please, continue to use the velcro hook type resealable bags instead of the zipper style! :)

Best Isolate I've Tried

5
Overall:

I tried the peanut butter chocolate and it tastes great. I have mixed it with water and with dark chocolate almond milk (personal favorite) and it tastes exactly like it says it tastes like. It is sweet, but not overbearing. It's certainly not gross or chalky like most protein shakes. You have to mix it with room temp liquids or else it gets clumpy. If you mix it with tap water and shake it for a minute - let it sit for like 10 seconds - then shake again for a minute then you're good. If you mix it with something from the fridge then you have to either shake (or stir depending) on and off for like 5-10 min before it actually dissolves almost fully. It doesn't bother me I'm a patient person. As for it's effectiveness; I believe that it is aiding in my recovering well - however I eat fairly well and I bought a bike so I'm biking more and I'm now able to workout 4 days a week instead of 3 or 2 (work/school schedule) so I can't say for certain the protein has helped. It might just be that I'm able to be more active and I have a healthy diet. BUT I will certainly buy this product again because on those days where I can't eat as much as I'd like because of my busy schedule, it's nice to know I'm getting the essential components of whey protein in my diet after a hard workout - and I workout HARD.
