When it comes to keeping up with the latest social media trends, TikTok is the platform to watch. On this mega-popular app, you can find anything from recipes and workout routines to storytelling and general life advice.

The brand just revealed what trends we should look out for in 2024 that are already gaining traction on the app. The good news? Many of these trends are centred on positivity and growth, helping people add richness to their lives—social media doesn't always have to be toxic.

Let's check out three trends currently rising in popularity that will help you make 2024 your best year yet.

1. BookTok

As it sounds, BookTok is a side of TikTok where you can find all things books including reviews, recommendations, analysis, authors, and more.

The hashtag #BookTok currently has over 29.1 million posts on the platform. TikTok revealed that in 2024, BookTok is going to be as big as ever. Favourite authors like Sara J Mass (known for her many fantasy series including Throne of Glass, A Court of Thorns and Roses, and Crescent City) and Ana Huang (known for her romance series Twisted) are set to release new work this year.1

While romance series get the most attention on BookTok, you can still find content from many other genres on this side of TikTok, including biographies, activity and game books, and diet, health, and fitness works, among others.

Whatever you're reading, the activity is a great one to incorporate into your routine. Many health and fitness challenges, including #75Hard and #75Soft, include reading as part of the daily requirements because it advances your mind.

BookTok makes reading more fun by allowing readers to connect, share ideas, and be a part of a community with similar interests.

So, if you're trying to make your 2024 a little more interesting, pick up a book and join the phenomenon.

2. Calisthenics

Another incoming TikTok trend that is already popping up on screens is calisthenics workouts. As at-home workouts become more popular, calisthenics is a great option that you can do anywhere and that doesn't require any equipment.

The hashtag #calisthenics has 1.8 million posts so far and according to TikTok, is set to take off this year.

People are finding more creative ways to work out and calisthenics allows you to test your strength and resistance by using nothing but your own body.

This versatile bodyweight exercise can be dated back to ancient Greece and China and is still a great way to get a full-body workout today.

Calisthenics can help you improve your strength, flexibility, and balance and allows you to enhance the difficulty with more challenging moves as you go.

Plus, you can do it totally at your own pace and create a routine you love.

3. Travel

A final social media trend set to pick up speed in 2024 is travelling—no surprise here. Travelling has been popular on platforms like TikTok and Instagram for quite some time and only continues to rise with 40.2 million posts for the hashtag #travel.

According to Statista, after a huge decline during COVID-19 and rebound in 2022, both inbound and outbound travelling rates across the world are set to increase this year by about 17%.2

On TikTok, you can find plenty of travel content from travel blogs to memes about ignoring your problems and hopping on a flight. Travel can be a great way to reset, take a much-needed rest, and gain a new perspective.

TikTok can be a great place to find travel stories, recommendations, and top tips. Both exhilarating and cathartic, travel might be just what you need this year.

If you're looking for new locales to visit, according to TikTok, the most searched country so far this year is Dubai, while Marrakech, Prague, and Copenhagen are set to gain traction as 2024 trails on.1
